Our Mission

PRIDE @ NU is National University's founding group for LGBTQ students and allies, and welcomes all members of the NU community. We sponsor events and activities that promote connection and build networks of support through leadership development, community service, and institutional engagement.

One of our most important activities is sponsoring Safe Zone Ally trainings. Navigate to the "Safe Zone Ally Training" page to learn more or request a training!

Pamela Schreurs

President

Hello everyone! My name is Pamela and I am a nursing student at NU. My focus is in pediatrics and psychosocial nursing. I am a Navy veteran and mom to two wonderful, quirky children. When I am not in school, I enjoy volunteering at the local children’s hospital and with Girl Scouts San Diego. Last July I was welcomed into the NU Scholars Program. This program has enhanced my leadership skills and allowed me to be more involved in my community. Early in my nursing program I joined Pride @ NU. It has been a pure joy to see the club blossom and become what is. Late last year, I was honored to become president of Pride @ NU.  Being president has been a privilege and together with my wonderful board and club members, we will continue to grow within the great San Diego community.

Shannon Dalton

Co-President

Hi there! My name is Shannon Dalton (she/her/hers) and I am a Master of Education student at NU seeking a Multiple Subject Credential to teach elementary students. I am a graduate of San Diego State University’s Hospitality & Tourism Management program and enjoy planning & executing various events. I decided to make a career switch into education with a vision of helping to create more inclusive spaces for ALL students. As a lesbian, I grew up seeing little representation of the experiences that I, and other members of the LGBT community, were facing, and struggled with a lack of empathy and understanding from educators and administrators. As soon as I became a student at National University, I jumped at the chance to be involved in Pride and complete the SafeZones certification training. My goal is to get as many people as possible SafeZones certified, specifically healthcare workers and educators, in order to help make the world a safer and more inclusive place for LGBT youth, and LGBT people everywhere.
